Samsung has had a long-standing reputation of being a company that looks to frequently experiment with their products in the category of unique devices so as to come up with a novelty everytime in the technology goods market. Being the leader of the global smartphone market, the technology giants from South Korea can afford to take these risks. While some of them fail, there are a number of others that hit the mark with developments. The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro looks like one device that falls in the latter category.

The Samsung 12.2″ Galaxy Tab Pro is an extremely powerful tablet and the closest that any product has come to replacing the Ultrabook. It has some impressive specifications to work with: latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS, 3GB worth of RAM, Exynos 5420 processor, high-definition 2560×1600-pixel display, and a 12.2″ screen. The TouchWiz UI is another impressive feature that allows users to work simultaneously with as many as four open windows.
It is very difficult to ignore the huge size of the Tab Pro which makes it very difficult to carry around in hand all day long. Although light for its massive size, it is nevertheless extremely unwieldy and also lacks a built-in kickstand to counter its massive size. Tablet cases can be purchased from any mobile store to counter that problem but to think that there is such a glaring omission from the product feels like an oversight.
The real disappointment of this product is revealed through the processor performance. The Exynos 5 Octa Quadcore processor is expected to be good and sturdy enough. For simpler apps such as Facebook and the recent “Sonic the Hedgehog” game from Sega, it delivers satisfactory performance. However, for the more intense games such as Asphalt 8, the product fails to live up to expectations and lags behind in the performance standards.

– Excellent sound quality from the speakers

– Too expensive considering the available range of features
– Reduced portability owing to unsavoury size
Final verdict: The Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro is not the most ideal replacement for a traditional workplace or workstation. Essentially an expensive behemoth that is being touted as a tablet, the product has a vast number of features to its credit. At the higher end of the price spectrum, this product is best suited for those who are serious about handling a tablet.
